Hello I’m Kate, an interior designer and decorator based
I run my design practice from The Bakery Rooms in Balmain, a beautiful heritage building which was once a bakery and still houses the rustic, original ovens. I share the space and collaborate with Home Industry to offer custom services to create locally handmade interior products in consultation with our clients. Together we have a shop, workroom, design consultation and run workshops. In the Home Industry store you’ll find soft furnishings, display curtains and blinds, a selection of restored vintage furniture, quality interior fabrics and curiosities.
When it comes to creating interiors, I understand my clients need spaces that meet their personal tastes and lifestyles and that will stand the test of time. Experienced in decorating and full scale renovations, I specialise in residential and boutique commercial interiors. I work with a small team to deliver a wide range of services. Together we bring imagination and original ideas to each project, designing environments that reflect my client’s individual style.
My passion is for renovating buildings with history and my approach to design combines contemporary finishes with original features, rustic and vintage elements. My practice focuses on handmade bespoke pieces, sustainable materials and locally made products. I have over ten years training and experience in design, art, fabric, furniture and interiors. I worked for five years as a decorator for Cloth Fabric and continue to enjoy working and collaborating with Cloth on a range of projects focussing on window treatments, upholstery and soft furnishings.
I have a Diploma of Interior Design and Decoration from the Design Centre Enmore, a Bachelor of Art (Visual) Textiles from ANU and a Master of Art Administration from COFA. I am an International Member of the Design Institute of Australia (MDIA.)
